The Allroad owner is sending me an offer.

for the job. I had a formal interview with the 3 top guys in the office.  I’ll work on offer for the Allroad (vehicle) next.

I keep thinking “ find a clean one, manual (so no TC issues), replace the airbags, upgrade both turbos, and enjoy...” Of course that’s like $10k invested for a $5k car, and then the relentless parade of CEL shenanigans will begin. I mean I still might do it, but it’s a terrible idea.

It would really need to be a second car, you will have a lot of down time. The hardest part is all the engine- out repairs.

I’ve had engines out of these in less than 3 hours. Not as big a deal as it seems. Just costly if you have to pay someone to do it. They are as reliable as you want them to be. I’ve worked on several wi th over 20 0,000 miles with no major issues. Lots of preventative maintenance, and fix things when there is an issue, no 6 months after the fact. I want one too....
